August/September 2016

Well, we've had a very busy summer with festivals at Holmfirth, Doncaster, Wirral. and Beverley Fringe, and its not over yet, as we have a great spot at Moira Furnace next weekend as well as the ceilidh, and Sedgefield Folk Festival on Sept 3rd plus a spot at the Farmers Market on Sunday 4th.
On top of that we have done two local fundraising ceilidhs, a whole load of weddings and parties and a couple of summer fairs, so lots going on. We are hoping to have some EPs available at Moira Furnace (£5.00) featuring 'Song for Jo', a couple of other tracks written by the band and a cover we haven't tried out in public yet.

Alterego have now got the first of this season's festivals behind them and what a weekend we had at Holmfirth. Even the weather played the game. This weekend 20-22 May we are doing the ceilidh at Doncaster Folk Festival on Friday evening and running a singaround/session at the Salutation on Saturday afternoon. We are running a skiffle session and some sessions at Wirral FF, playing Beverley Fringe in June, Moira Furnace Folk Festival in August, and Sedgefied Folk Festival in September. Add a couple of summer fairs into the mix and we have quite a busy summer ahead of us. Look forward to seeing you somewhere.

Well having looked at the diary we are actually quite busy over the next few weeks. This weekend we are hopefully running a session as part of the Battle Re-enactment at Stamford Bridge Cricket Club. We will probably run it even if the rain cancels out the re-enactment but will post on facebook if we decide not to go ahead. The following weekend (25th/26th September) we have the Sun Inn Beer Festival on Friday evening, and a private party at Ilkley on Saturday. A private invitation on 9th/10th October, and our second open acoustic session at the Wenlock Arms on Sunday 11th.

Latest news

Well what a summer this has been. Loads of festivals and private bookings so things are looking good. We've already got some firm bookings for next year. Things should get a bit quieter between now and Christmas but there is still enough to keep us well practiced!

Next few weeks

We are playing the ceildih at Moira Furnace Folk Festival this weekend and Noel & Steve are helping Bob to run the skiffle workshop on Sunday along with some friends. We will be doing a short set at Sedgefield Folk Festival at Ceddesfeld Hall on Saturday 5th September after which we will be playing background music for the World Spoons Championship! That will be our last Folk Festival booking of the year but we are playing 2 local beer festivals (11th September at The Wenlock Arms, Wheldrake and 25th September at The Sun Inn, Pickering). We are setting up a Sunday afternoon acoustic session (4.00 - 7.00ish) on the 2nd Sunday of the month starting in September at The Wenlock Arms, Wheldrake to see how it goes, and will be running our  Last Saturday acoustic session at The Cricket Pavilion, Stamford Bridge starting in October 7.30 onwards. Plenty to keep us going through thg winter! Look forward to seeing you all somewhere.

What is happening next

Well we are nearly halfway through the year with Homfirth, Doncaster and Bamfest Festivals behind us. This weekend coming we are at Wirral, then Beverley Fringe. After that there is a bit of a break before we do Moira Furnace in August. We've got a few parties, weddings and pubs to do in the meantime with another possible festival in the pipeline so keep an eye on the diary page as it is updated regularly.

March 2015

Busy week mid March with three bookings open to the public. First is on 15th March at the Bay Horse, Stamford Bridge, this is an early one 6.00 - 9.00 so don't turn up too late! We will be doing a band set in preparation for St Patrick's day so there will be a good smattering of Irish.  St Patrick's day itself, Tuesday 17th, we will be at O'Neill's, York for their final bash before closing down prior to alterations and a new name. We will be playing from 8.00 - 10.00 and you are likely to hear lots of old favourites as well as some lively music.  Final gig of the week is at Barlborough, near Chesterfield on Friday 20th where we will be playing in the bar from 9.00 - 11.00. Got this one as a chance booking as the guy responsible for bookings happened to be walking past when we were doing a ceilidh in the hall down the road. He made a point of walking back as we were packing up so we must have made an impression! Look forwad to seeing some of you at one or more of these!

2015 events

Alterego kicked off 2015 last weekend with a Burns night supper in York. Great night even though we started a bit later than we were expecting to. Lots of enthusiastic dancers full of haggis and whiskey! We initiated our latest recruit, guitarist and singer Steve Marshall at this booking and he coped admirably with the rather unorthodox arrangements we tend to put to some standard tunes! Well done Steve and we hope to have you and Dee join us when you can.

Coming up we have a birthday party to play for on 14th February (private party), we are running acoustic open sessions on 31st January, 28th Feb and 28th March at Stamford Bridge Cricket Club, playing a band set at The Bay Horse, Stamford Bridge on Sunday 15th March (an early set playing from 6.
